2009-2010 Season Starting

Toronto, September 15, 2009

Dear Friends:

The Mozart Society is swinging into action for another year. We are proud of our upcoming events and hope that you will participate in them. We also hope that you’ll support our activities by bringing friends (i.e. potential members) to our meetings.

Membership in the Society has been declining steadily for a number of years. At present we have less than 70 member households. Attendance at our concerts hovers between fifty and seventy people. To justify (and afford) continued Society activities we need to attract new members and increase our concert attendance. With this in mind, we are making our first concert of the year free to all comers. We will not solicit guest donations, although we do hope for membership renewals. Bring friends or acquaintances to the concert, so that they can experience what we are all about. We hope that at least some of these guests will become members in the future.

That first evening is on Wednesday, October 7, at 7:30 p.m. It features a recital by the soprano Deanna Hendricks and pianist Peter Tiefenbach performing works by Mozart, Purcell and Haydn. This event will take place at our usual location. (Sunderland Hall, First Unitarian Congregation, 175 St. Clair Ave. W.)

On Wednesday, November 4, at 7:30 p.m. we welcome, once again, the pianist Boris Krajny (also at Sunderland Hall, First Unitarian Congregation, 175 St. Clair Ave. W.). Mr. Krajny, as we know from his previous performances for the Society, is a distinguished and engaging performer.

This letter will be the only reminder for the Fall concerts. Please note the concert dates in a convenient place, or keep this page as a reminder. Remember, full details of the evenings (and any changes) are posted on our website (www.mozartsociety-toronto.com) and placed on our voicemail (416.201.3338) as they become available.

Our present plans for Spring 2010 include appearances by the Panocha Quartet, and by the bassoonist Lisa Chisholm, as well as our annual party.

This is the time of year when we ask for the renewal of your membership in the Society. We can only continue our programs with your interest and encouragement. A membership form is available by clicking on Download Society Documents on the left, and then selecting Membership Form. Print this document and fill it out. You can either mail it to us or bring it to one of our fall meetings, accompanied by your cheque.

I look forward to seeing many (most? all, I hope) of you at the Society’s activities this fall. All the best,

Chris Reed
